Ditch resolutions. Embrace the Power of Intentions for 2024

Happy New Year with coffee cup
Happy New Year!

As we embark on this new chapter of 2024, let's not just set goals—we're diving into the heart of our aspirations with intentions. Resolutions may come and go, but intentions linger, guiding us on a personal and professional journey that resonates with our passions. Today, let's not only explore the benefits of intentions but also lay down a sample framework to help you set meaningful intentions for an extraordinary year.

Resolutions vs. Intentions: The Shift We Need

Resolutions often feel like a list of demands we impose on ourselves, leading to frustration when they waver. Let's be honest - how many years have your resolutions fallen by the wayside before Valentine's Day comes around? Do you remember the feeling of guilt or incompleteness when you couldn't follow through, no matter the reason? Let's avoid that this year.

Intentions, on the other hand, are like seeds we plant, nurturing them with authenticity and purpose. As mujeres in the entrepreneurial realm, this shift in mindset is pivotal—connecting our daily actions with our authentic selves. Our intentions are the guide for taking action that will benefit our success and future! With real steps and realistic goals, we can move our lives and businesses forward. And it doesn't have to only be at the beginning of the year - we can do this all year long!

Why Intentions Matter for Women of Color Entrepreneurs

Recent studies underline the significance of setting intentions, especially for entrepreneurs. It's not just about achieving short-term goals but creating a sustainable, purpose-driven business. As women of color, our unique perspectives and experiences shape the entrepreneurial landscape, and our intentions become the compass guiding us through uncharted territories.

And let's face it, we have a lot on our plate. We don't need the hassle or guilt of not following through on resolutions. We need our energies and fuerza to take care of our families and our businesses. Women are decision-makers and have an amazing impact on our economy and business world. Let's use our energies to grow and lead the way for others in building wealth, influence, and community.

Tips for Setting Intentions and Cultivating Success

Setting your intentions (rather than resolutions) doesn't have to be difficult. I suggest focusing on three intentions at a time. Why? Because it is manageable. Remember, this is not your daily to-do list but specific intentions to reach a specific goal. Try these steps:

1. Reflect on Your Values: Take a moment to connect with your core values. What drives you? What truly matters to you and your community? What is that one thing you have wanted to have the courage to do in your business but had some fear of doing?

2. Be Specific: Unlike vague resolutions, specific intentions provide a clear roadmap to success. Instead of saying, "be more organized," try "implement a streamlined project management system by Q2." Using vague statements gives too much room for failure. You can set multiple steps or dates to complete these actions if that helps you focus. And write it down!

3. Visualize Your Success: Close your eyes and picture your success vividly. What does it look like? How does it feel? Visualization is a powerful motivator, aligning your actions with your aspirations.

4. Reward yourself: A reward for a job well done can be anything from a small treat to that luxury item you have been eyeing for a long time. No matter how long it takes to complete the intention, remember to reward yourself when you reach that goal. A good reward will also inspire new intentions!

What will an intention look like? Try these examples as a guide.
